Evaluation - Matthew

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challange forms and conventions of real media products?
We have developed our media product using Conventions normally found on any magazine and we have adapted them to suit our magazine, for example our Masthead (BASSLINE) took us a while to think of as we had numerous ideas on what to call it, eventually we decided what to call it through questionnaires that we each produced and had many friends comment on what they like best. On any magazine you will find a Masthead/Brand identity, price, pictures, main stories ect, these Conventions are what makes a magazine a magazine, as this is what customers will recognise in a shop, an possibly make them buy it.
In the development of our magazine we had to challenge forms and conventions of real media products. Our magazine is about new, unknown local bands and through our individual and group research we found it very hard to find existing magazines that focus on new, unknown bands wanting to get a record deal or make it big, so this is why we decided to base our magazine on this. We were challenged on what colour(s) to put on our magazine, and green is a neutral colour that suit both genres of our magazine - Rock/Indie - We thought that green is a very effective colour as it will attract customers attention, especially on the black background it stands out really well and the idea of the font we used come from an idea that popped into our heads which was the idea of a heart monitor, we took the idea of the green line and made it into a Masthead, (follow link to see our Masthead)
After getting our coursework grades back we had feedback from our teachers who marked it for us, thay had left comments to help us fix the mistakes we made so we can get a much better mark when it was finally graded. One major comment was about our Double Page Spread (DPS), and how it did not fit with the rest of our magazine, our DPS consisted of a red and white checkerd table cloth with napkins, post-it notes and note paper (follw link to see) after getting this critisim we realised the mistake we had made so we quickley changed it and it now fits with the rest of our magazine, also you can clearly see the connection between the Front cover, Contents page and Double Page Spread.
